Deliver Section Annual Report
2007

This year has probably been the hardest year since I have been the Area Delivery Rep, and also the most event full year with Royal Mail tightening the screw on all aspects which led us in to the biggest dispute for a decade, I will say that my opinion is that we where let down by our National Headquarters and once we headed in to the dispute we where clearly on are own and although it was an unofficial dispute and we can not condone unofficial action I was pleased that no incidents occurred and you presented your self with dignity and respect, as we know from the past these hard times can sometime get out of hand, we now come in to a new era where a national ballot resulted in us obtaining a nation agreement and to be honest there are a lot of areas in the agreement that I think we can work with but we ( meaning Royal Mail and the CWU) need to be honest and fair when we are discussing the different targets we need to reach.
We have seen the new equipment that is available and I have reminded management (about the times when we where promised the right tools for the job and they never materialised) that this time will be different, my goal would be for us to hit the targets so you can receive the payments that you deserve and also bettering your conditions with the use of the right equipment, levelling of the walks ect.

I would request at this point, if any member has ideas for us to move forward with the National agreement any comments can be directed to me via my E-Mail mikey@cwumerseyamal.org.uk I think it is time for us to take advantage of this agreement to resolve the problems we have experienced over that past year or so. For this to happen we all need (Royal Mail and CWU) need to look at different methods of working that can accommodate weight on delivery / delivery spans ect , it will be a daunting task but with a bit of ingenuity I am sure we can do it. There will be a couple of offices nominated to trial different work methods and we will obviously be looking to get the best for the whole area, I will update all reps with the forth coming information.

May I take this opportunity to say thank you to Trevor Litherland for his efforts as the Area sub rep and Ray Lucas delivery section chair for their support over the past years and welcome Duncan Savage (area delivery sub rep) and Paul Hesketh ( delivery section chair) and congratulate them on their election to the posts.

Also to all the unit reps, this job is done with no extra pay but loads of extra grief from management and our members it take balls to do this job so I thank you on behalf of the Branch, our members and management for your unreserved efforts and wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

In closing if for any reason big or small you need to contact me you can on 0151 708 5504
