RETIRED MEMBERS SECTION
MERSEYSIDE AMAL BRANCH
ANNUAL REPORT 2010
The Section this year held four meetings with the AGM in September 2010.
At the AGM the Section elected, Chairman, Ron Taylor, Secretary, Allan Trotter, Treasurer, Bob Johnson, and two committee members. The Chairman has been ill and was not able to attend as many meetings as he would want. The section wishes him a speedy recovery.
This year the Section took a visitor to Annual Conference so Vinny Holyland attended with me. He was able to join the delegation on the floor of Conference. The officers have attended Regional Meetings in Manchester.
In June a number of members attended the National Pensioners Convention at Blackpool. In October members attended a Lobby of Parliament to object to the privatization of Royal Mail. Trips to the War Museum and Regional Forum both in Manchester were successful.
At Annual Conference this year a proposition to stop the Death Grant to retired members was not heard and consequently passed back to the National Executive Council who put forward various propositions for savings from this fund. We still await final proposals from Union Headquarters.
On November 11 TH the last Memorial Service was held at the Copperas Hill site. The Memorial stones are to be moved to the North and South Delivery Offices. The section will have to make a decision on a service being held next year at SandHills or the Met Quarter Whitechapel where the other Memorial Statue is sited.
A successful Social was held in December at the Eldonian Centre Vauxhall Road.
My best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
Allan Trotter
Secretary
